Privacy Policy
TagVault has no account and no servers that hold your things. We don't collect any data about you.
Last updated: November 4, 2026
The short version
- There is no sign-in. Your profile (name, emoji, colour, device name) lives only on your phone.
- Everything you add, including things, boxes, rooms, photos, receipts, documents and notes, is stored on your iPhone.
- Photos are read on the phone by Apple Vision and, where available, Apple Intelligence. They are never uploaded for analysis.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no crash reporting, and no data brokers. We never sell or share data, because we never receive it.
Where your data lives
TagVault keeps your home inventory in the app's own storage on your iPhone, protected by iOS. Records you mark as sensitive can be locked behind Face ID. Deleting the app deletes this data from the phone.
Backups. If you use iCloud Backup, Apple includes TagVault's data in your device backup under your Apple Account. You can also save a locked backup file (Settings → Backup) to Files or iCloud Drive. That file is encrypted, and only you choose where it goes.
Family sharing
When you invite family, phones share updates and family notes directly with each other over the local network and Bluetooth using Apple's Multipeer Connectivity. Everything sent between them is sealed with a family key that only your family's phones hold. Nothing passes through our servers, and we cannot read it. A box set to Only me never leaves your phone.
A family invite link (tagvault.oneenergytogether.com/join) carries the invite after the #, a part of the link browsers never send to a server, so our website never receives it. NFC spot tags hold only a sealed spot ID, not your notes or what's stored.
The few times TagVault uses the internet
TagVault works without the internet. A few features you choose to use reach outside services, and only the minimum needed is sent:
- Barcode lookup. When you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts to fetch the product name. Nothing else is sent.
- Place names from photos. If a photo already contains a location, TagVault may ask Apple's map service to turn those coordinates into a place name. TagVault never asks for your current location.
- Voice search. Speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, which may process audio on Apple's servers under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Links you open. Links to Find My, the App Store or this website open in those apps. TagVault tag and share links contain only an ID, never what is stored.
Tips
TagVault is free. If you choose to leave a tip in the app, Apple handles the payment under Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple tells us only that a tip was bought, never who you are, your Apple Account or your card. The GitHub Sponsors link (US App Store only) opens GitHub's own website, under GitHub's privacy statement.
Permissions
TagVault asks only when you use a feature: Camera (photos, QR and barcode scans), Photos (adding pictures), NFC (reading and writing tags), Local Network (family sync nearby), Microphone and Speech Recognition (voice search), Face ID (locked records), and Notifications (reminders). You can change these anytime in the iOS Settings app.
Children
TagVault does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Kid profiles in a family exist only on your family's phones.
This website
This site is hosted by Cloudflare, which may keep standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security. Messages sent through the Support form are delivered to us by email. We don't use cookies, analytics or trackers here.
If you contact us
The app sends us nothing. If you choose to write to us, through the form on our Support page or by email, we receive only what you send: your message, and your name, email address and iPhone or app version if you add them. We use it only to answer you and improve TagVault, keep it no longer than we need to, and never sell or share it. To have a message deleted, ask us at the address below.
Changes and contact
